Optometrist, Dr. Harkema and the entire Sparta Optometry, PC staff take the sincerest pleasure in taking part in your family's eye care needs. We are dedicated to providing the best care possible and helping our patients make the right decisions about their eyewear without pressuring them into purchasing unnecessary options.

Our Doctor

Dr. HarkemaDr. Harkema graduated from Ferris State University College of Optometry in 1992 and started working at Sparta Optometry in 1997. Dr. Harkema is an active member of the Michigan Optometric Association, The West Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. In July 1999, Dr. Harkema purchased the business from Dr. Jay Dean and took controlling interest and ownership. He loves the challenges of solving problems small and large and the great variety of people that he serves. When he is out of the office, he enjoys coaching basketball and softball for his two girls, golfing, camping and spending time outdoors with friends and family.

Our Staff

Sue and Tracy are our Opticians with over 22 years experience between them. They assist patients with frame selection, lens options and contact lens trialing as well as repairs and adjustments. Sue and Tracy also will deliver your finished product; educating you with the proper care and function of your specialty lenses answering all of your questions and concerns.

Jessica and Lisa are our Reception and Patient Coordinators. They answer the telephone; verify your insurance eligibility and benefits as well as updating patient information while scheduling your appointment. After your appointment, Jessica and Lisa will submit insurance claims, process payments, mail out statements and mail reminder postcards for your next appointment. They are always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
